Family Involvement
Family Involvement at Nenahnezad Community School
At Navajo District, we understand parents and guardians are essential partners in their children’s education. We value your involvement and recognize your critical role in your child’s academic success. Our Parent Involvement Policy outlines our commitment to fostering a strong partnership between home and school.
Key Roles for Parents and Guardians in their Child’s Education
Educational research shows that children thrive when parents, guardians and caregivers actively participate in their learning. At Navajo District, we encourage parents and guardians to play four key roles in their child’s education:
- Parents/Guardians as Teachers: Support your child’s learning at home.
- Supporters: Contribute your skills to support our school community.
- Advocates: Ensure your child receives fair treatment.
- Decision-makers: Participate in problem-solving with the school at every level.
What We Do to Support Parental and Guardian Involvement
To ensure effective communication and collaboration between home and school, we:
- Involve parents in developing the school’s improvement plan.
- Plan, implement and assess parent involvement activities to improve student achievement and school climate.
- Build the capacity for strong parental involvement through ongoing communication and integration into school activities.
- Coordinate workshops and events to support parents in furthering their child’s education and addressing challenges faced by today’s youth.
- Conduct an annual evaluation of our Parent Involvement Policy with parent involvement to identify barriers and improve effectiveness.
Student-Parent Handbook and Parent Involvement Policy
We distribute the Student-Parent Handbook and Parent Involvement Policy to all enrolled students’ parents and guardians. The handbook includes detailed information about how we implement and maintain our Parent Involvement Policy.
TIPS-Tiger Parent Support
TIPS-Tiger Parent Support is a dedicated parent and guardian support group committed to improving our school for students, staff and parents. They meet monthly to discuss school improvement and advocate for student success. All parents/guardians are encouraged to attend these meetings.
Parent-School Compact
The Parent-School Compact outlines the shared responsibility of parents, guardians, school staff and students for student achievement. It clarifies the school’s responsibility to provide quality education and parents’ and guardians’ responsibility to support their child’s education. The Parent Advisory Committee reviews and updates the compact annually.
We encourage all parents and guardians to participate actively in our school community. Your participation is vital to the success of our students and our school. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact us.
